Vegetables

We planted our first vegetable garden! In March, Justin helped me take out old lavender and other plants from one of the raised beds in our backyard. It gets tons of sun, so I am hoping that it will be a prime location for growing veggies. A few weeks ago, I enriched the soil with compost and then with my Mom's help, we planted tomatoes, cukes, bell peppers, bush beans, radishes and potatoes. We recently received lettuce from our neighbor, so that has been planted as well. Mom had extra dill and leeks to plant last week, so now I would say our garden is at maximum capacity. My Dad taught me how to add new drip lines to the existing irrigation line, so now we are good to go (I hope!). Gardening is such fun, I can't wait to go out and pick fresh veggies with the kids this summer.

Picnic Day

On the 16th, we headed up to UC Davis for Picnic Day. It is a great family-friendly event. The kids loved the parade, the Entomology Department displays, sheepdog trials, visiting the horse barn, and watching the "battle of the bands." After a super-fun day, we drove to Sacramento to visit Mel and Pete. The kids had so much fun playing in their backyard and sleeping in their camper. I am so glad we have made this an annual Magers' Family event!
